PONY SALE AT KIRWEE

Top Price 41 Guineas The main interest was in ponies that could be recommended and were thoroughly quiet at the annual cob, hack, and pony sale held this week at the Courtenay Agricultural and Pastoral Association's showgrounds at Kirwee by Pyne. Gould, Guinness Ltd. A total of 80 ponies was offered—2o more than last year —and those sold averaged 19>gns. Top price of the sale was 41gns for a rising two-year-old white pony of 12.2 hands, broken to saddle and very quiet. It was offered on account of Mr L. M. Marshall, of Irwell, and was purchased by Mr G. R. Seaton, of Courtenay. Other good small ponies sold at from 25gns to 40gns—a 10i-hand ponv broken to saddle and very offered on account of Mr C. L. Suckling, Springbank, making 25gns, and an 111-hand pony offered on account of Mr R. Williams. Belfast, making 40gns. In the 12.2-hand to 13.2-hand smtion the best prices were 37gns for a grey pony mare, five years did. 13.2 hands, and broken to saddle, offered on account of Miss Ann McLeod. Cass: 35gns for a brown pony mare, four years old, 12.2 hands, offered on account of Miss Alisa McLaren. Hinds; and 26gns for a bay pony mare, five years old. 13.1 hands, sold on account of Mr George Ware, of Riccarton. For ponies over 13.2 hands in height and up to 14.3 hands 40gns was obtained for a chestnut gelding, six years old, 14.2 hands, offered on account of Miss Elaine Hart, Derfield. This was a prtxe-wlnning pony in show and dressage classes and had not been unplaced at ■ shqw since it waflka two-year-old. MUe;J. A. Ferpony tnare; Mrs J. L. Bmellie, of Hawarden, received 27|gns for her dark brown cob mare. Reality, which was 14.3 hands high apd five years old; and 25gns was the .price for a three years old 14.2 hands bay pony mare from Mr T. Heal. of Greendale. In the hack section the best prices were 40gns for Red Rose, a chestnut mare aged seven years and IS hands high from Mrs R. W. Wightman. Ashburton, and 30gns for a seven years old 15.1-hsnd chestnut gelding, by Lord Advocate, sold by Miss Esther Eaves, of Darfield. Two pony foals, both seven months old, made 15gns each for Mrs D. Andrews, of Hornby. Aged ponies and half broken-in ponies met with practically no competition, and those which sold made from 2 to lOgns. ‘ , At the conclusion of the pony sale a large number of riding saddles, bridles, and stable accessories were offered. Out of the 27 riding saddles sold the top price was £3O. and many made from £l2 to £l5.
