INFORMATION FOR DOCTORS
Health Department’s New Adviser "The Press** Special Service AUCKLAND, May 13. Dr. Stuart Mac Kay, of Auckland, has been appointed an assistant director of the division of clinical services at the Department of Health. He will visit private practitioners in all parts of the Dominion in order to discuss prescribing problems and to offer information and advice, particularly about new products. For the last 14 years. Dr. MacKay has been in- private practice in Auckland as a general physician. For 17 years before that he was in general practice in Takapuna. The director of the division (Dr. A. W. S. Thompson) said in his notification of the appointment that until recently the only up-to-date information available to private practitioners was that supplied by the drug firms. There are at present about 750 proprietary products in the drug tariff and more than 80 manufacturers selling them. Dr. MacKay will keep doctors informed of the relative merits and costs of these preparations. Dr. Thompson said it was hoped that this appointment would foster good relations between the Department of Health and doctors in private practice.
