BIRTH OF TRIPLETS
Mrs P. Johnston, Of Culverden Triplets—two boys and a girl —were born this week to Mrs P. M. Johnston, of Culverden, at St. Helens Hospital, Christchurch. The babies are premature by six weeks and are in an incubator at the hospital. One of the babies was 21b soz at birth and the other two were a little more than 31b. The matron of St. Helens. Miss Te N. Hughes, said last evening that the children’s condition was satisfactory and that they had required oxygen up until yesterday afternoon. The father of the triplets, who is a patrol officer for the Automobile Association in Culverden. said last evening that he had seen his babies through glass but his wife has not yet seen them. Mrs Johnston, he said, is happy but a little dazed at the arrival of three children. “I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet.” he said. The Johnstons were informed about a week ago. after the mother underwent an X-ray that triplets were expected. The couple, who have been married about four years, have no other children. Mrs Johnston is feeling ‘‘reasonably good’’ after a long delivery, according to her husband, and he is feeling “rather good, too." He is waiting a while to celebrate until the babies are better established. In the meantime he Is thinking up names for his three children.
