DESERTER GIVEN DETENTION
Court-Martial At Linton Camp (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, May 14. An Army non-commissioned officer was today found guilty of desertion at a court martial held at Linton camp. He was LanceCorporal E. V. F. Phillips, who illegally absented himself from his duties at Waiouru on March 26, 1956. After hearing the evidence, the court sentenced Phillips to serve 180 days detention, the sentence canying automatic demotion to the ranks.
The sentence is subject to confirmation.
