60 Per Cent. Under 21 Years The comparative youthfulness of the Maori population compared with the European population is shown in figures in the latest Abstract of Statistics. The effect of the higher Maori birth-rate is shown by population figures at December 1958. Of the Maori population, 19 per cent, was under five years of age, while of the European population 11 per cent, was under five years of age. This trend is carried on the figures for the group under 21 yetrs of age. Sixty per cent, ot the Maori population was under 21 compared with 40 per cent of the European population. Over the age of 21 there was 60 per cent, of the European population and 40 per cent, of the Maori population.
