BLENHEIM SCHOOL CENTENARY
Celebrations In August One of the events of the Marlborough centennial celebrations being held this year will be the centenary of the Blenheim School to be held in August. “Daddy White’s” school was the name given to the first school after Mr James White, the first teacher. It was erected on the present site in 1889 and there have been three other schools since. Gopperth’s school, built in 1887, was destroyed by fire in 1888, and the third school —McLean’s brick schopl—built in the same year, was pulled down in 1936 to make way for the present buildings. The present school is made up of 10 rooms of the open-air type, three detached classrooms and an assembly hall It is equipped with every modern amenity including a swimming pool, radio, filrp projector and other teaching aids.
