MYSTERY IN ROME
Soekarno Misses Appointment ROME, May 13. President Soekarno of Indonesia attended a reception at the Indonesian Embassy tonight as the mystery deepened over his broken luncheon appointment today with President Giovanni Gronchi, of Italy. Dr. Soekarno, who is on a world tour, flew into Rome last night with an entourage of 30 for a State visit to the Pope tomorrow. His main engagement today was to be a luncheon with President Gronchi, but Dr. Soekarno cancelled the appointment with only an hour’s notice after he had spent two hours shopping in Rome, and visiting some of the city’s most famous historical features. His press officer said Dr. Soekarno “just could not make the lunch” because he was “indisposed and resting.” He could not give details of Dr. Soekarno's indisposition.
