BLACK SWANS AT LAKE WHANGAPE

‘Erroneous Report’ Of Avian Tuberculosis

Black swans at Lake Whangape Were not "rotten” with avian tuberculosis, the game committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society reported to the monthly meeting of the society last night.

“It was erroneously reported that black swans at Lake Whangape were ’rotten with the disease,’.” the committee Teported. No culture tests were carried out and the conclusion as to the presence of' the disease has been refuted by research workers at Ruakura Animal Research Station who are permitted to collect upwards of 100 swans a year.

The council received the report which the committee said had been supplied by the Department of Internal Affaits, without comment
