TAIPEH VISAS FOR TIBETANS
Some To Go To Formosa
(N-Z- Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) CALCUTTA, May 7 Some Tibetan refugees living in Kalimpong, the Indian town near the Tibetan border, say they have visas to enter Formosa, headquarters of the Chinese Nationalists, according to reports reaching Calcutta, quoted by British United Press.
This was revealed when they asked the West Bengal State Government for exit permits. They did not disclose how they received the visas, but denied that they had approached Nationalist authorities for them. It was also reported in Calcutta that nine Tibetans have been given permission to go to Formosa by way of Hong. Kong on a pilgrimage. Their passages were arranged by the Formosa authorities, the agency said. Among the refugees trying to get visas for Formosa were about 100 Chinese who escaped from China and settled in Tibet, but who were later forced to flee. They fled first to Sikkim, the tiny State bordering Tibet, where they were arrested for illegal entry but later released.
