Welfare Society Discussed

“There have alwaj’s been arguments with the Pensioners’ Welfare Society, and I think that we should not send delegates.” said Mr W. A. Phillips at the annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Pensioners’ Association yesterday.

He was moving that the branch should not elect delegates or representation to meetings of the Pensioners’ Welfare Society. The chairman (Mr F. Rogers) explained to a questioner that the society was a section of all interested bodies in Christchurch “They are doing a wonderful job. but this is to stop us from having a representative.” he said. Mr G. Spears asked what it cost to keep in touch with the society. Mr Rogers: Nothing. Mr Spears: Well, what are we talking about? After further discussion the motion was put and lost. Officers elected were:— President. Mr F. H. Rix; vicepresident. Mr F. Rogers: secretary. Mr E. Moore; committee (subject to recount). Mesdames A. Millar, G. Pengelly, I. Rix, V. Seeking, A.
