Golf RUSSELL GRACE CUP

Southland’s Narrow Lead (New Zealand Press Association} DUNEDIN, May 7. A 5-1 win for Southland against Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast was the highlight of the second day s play in the annual Russell Grace Cup golf series for South Island women's teams, at St. Clair today. The course was again soft from overnight rain, and most matches were evenly contested. With two matches to play tomorrow, Southland with 10j. points, has a narrow lead over South Canterbury. with 10 points; Otago has 91, Canterbury A 9. Canterbury B 9, and Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast 6.

The consistent South Canterbury team had a close win over Southland in the morning round, and then held the strong Canterbury A team to a draw.

That the highly-fancied Canterbury A team, which has dominated the competition in recent years, has had three drawn matches without a win so far continues to be the talking point of the tournament. The performance of the second Canterbury team in scoring the same number of points after two days is a meritorious one, and emphasises the strength of the game in the province. The draw for the last two rounds to be played tomorrow is:—Morning: Canterbury B v. South Canterbury, Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast Y-P* 3 ® o - Canterbury A v.
