Powers Given To Inspectors
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 7. Amendments to the Stock Diseases Regulations, 1937, to enable more effective steps to be taken for the control of outbreaks of serious stock diseases were recently gazetted and released tonight. The regulations say that where any stock or poultry has been or is found on an infected place, the owner shall, under the supervision of an inspector, destroy such of the stock as are diseased or infected, or if the inspector deems it necessary all of the stock and poultry, together with such farm produce, fittings, and things as may be required Fittings are defined as any materials, comprising any stall, stables, sheep pen. cow or cattle shed, horsebox or other structure used for keeping or confining stock or poultry, any halters, brushes, clothes, footwear, buckets plant, equipment, or other articles which have been used in connexion with, or which have come into contact with, any stock or poultry No persons shall enter on, or lease, an infected place, without the written permission of an inspector or otherwise than in accordance with any conditions imposed by the inspector The regulations add that where any infected area has been declared by an inspector, the Director-General of Agriculture may declare any land in the neighbourhood of the infected area to be a stock control area
Every declaration of a stock control area shall, unless sooner revoked, be in force for not more than six months.
No person shall, without the written permission of an inspector, bring, move or remove any stock, poultry, farm produce, or things from an infected place or area. During the currency of any declaration of an infected place or area in the North Island, no person is permitted, without written consent, to bring or move or remove any cattle, sheep, or pigs from the North Island to the South Island. Chatham Islands or Stewart Inland.
