FLOODING SOUTH OF DUNEDIN
Toko Mouth Settlers Isolated
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. May 6.
Toko Mouth settlers are isolated. The road separating them from Milton, 11 miles to the west, is under more than a foot of water, caused by the Tokomairiro river bursting-its banks Water was almost lapping the Main South road at Milton late tonight, and it was still raining. Cars bound for Central Otago, splashed through 9in of water at Waitahuna, inland from Milton. Most rivers in the province are at bank level, and farmers are on the alert. The Taieri river at noon was running 9ft above normal at the Outram bridge. Taieri farmers were warned to move stock from low levels, but by late afternoon the river had subsided a foot.
