ALTERATIONS

Alteration to the graving dock to accommodate wide vessels will be reported on by the engineer- | in-chief (Mr J. A. Cashin) and j the harbourmaster (Captain A. R. Champion) to the Lyttelton i Harbour Board. I The board yesterday decided also to call tenders for the purchase of three electric capstans for the dock.
Maintenance work, estimated to cost £l5OO, on the cattle jetty to assist vessels in bunkering operations was authorised. The jetty is on the landward side of the oil wharf.
The graving dock was opened in 1883. Its present maximum accommodation is of a vessel 462 feet long, 54 feet wide and 18 feet deep. The harbourmaster is dockmaster.
