Table Tennis 1960 N.Z. Titles At Hawera
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 17. The 1960 New Zealand table tennis championships and inter-associa-tions teams’ championship will be held at Hawera. The South Taranaki association were voted the championships over Wellington, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Table Tennis Association in Wellington today. Other venues of championships next year will be: inter-island contest for men and women, Franklin; North Island championships, Hawke’s Bay; South Island championships. Canterbury.
Japan Wins Three French Titles
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PARIS, April 16. Japan won three titles in the French international table tennis championships, which ended last night. I It won the women’s singles with Miss Fujie Eguchi, who defeated her team-mate, the world champion. Miss Kimiyo Matsuzaki; the women’s doubles with Misses Eguchi and Matsuzaki. and the mixed doubles with Miss Matsuzaki and Teruo Murakami. The surprise winner of the men’s singles was a 19-year-old Vietnam soldier. Le Van Tiet. while the men’s doubles was won by Ladislav Stipek and Ludvie Vyhnanovsky, of Czechoslovakia.
Canterbury Man New President
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 17. Mr F. H. G. Johnstone, of Canterbury, was elected president of the New Zealand Table Tennis Association at its annual meeting in Wellington today. The vice-presidents are Messrs A. E. B. Cheal (Auckland). D. Christie (Hawke s Bay), W. J. Donovan (South Taranaki), A. B. McCallum (Canterbury), I. J. Menzies (Otago). C. Q. Driscoll (Otago). F. J. Forman (Nelson), and R. W. Owen (Wanganui). Mr K. C. Wilkinson was re-elected secretary, and Mr H. N. , Ballinger treasurer. The incoming executive will be 1 Miss M. J. Guthrie and Messrs P. • Dudley. W. R. S. Jepson. W. Mul- > tins, H. A. Pyle. J. E. Stewart, T. S. ; Williams, L. M. Wilson and A. R. Barding.

(New Zeaiana Press Association! WELLINGTON. April 17. Criticism and commendation over the entry of a New Zealand team in the Marcel Corbillon Cup women’s word table tennis championships in Germany this year was expressed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Table Tennis Association today. The two members of the team— Miss J. M. Williamson and Miss F. Inglis—were in England at the time and entered the championships before cabling the association for permission. At last year’s meeting the association voted to send a team from New Zealand, but this lapsed when member associations did not raise the necessary funds. “I have no regret or apologies for the executive committee’s action,’ said Mr W. Mullins, chairman of the executive. “In the finish It will probably cost the association about £lOO for the team’s expenses.”
