Theatre Seating And Stage “Inadequate”

Thfc seating and stage facilities in the present theatre at Risingholme were inadequate, said the retiring president of the Risingholme Community Centre (Mr R. Hamlin) in his report to the annual meeting last evening.

Mr Hamlin was commenting on the steady growth of the theatre extension fund. He expressed the hope that work would continue towards the theatre’s further extension and that it would become a real asset to the centre. Mr Hamlin also remarked on the growth of other educational institutions in Christchurch.

“Risingholme must be prepared to meet the challenge and have not only higher standards of tutoring but higher standards of comfort,” he said.

The director, Miss J. Edgar, reported that the Christchurch City Council had agreed to calling the Hawford road reserve Hansen Park in recognition of Dr. D. E. Hansen’s community service. *7 hope it won’t be very long before Hansen Park will be a place of which we can be proud,” Miss Edgar said. Classes were filling very well already, said Miss Edgar, and she had to thank the adult education department at 'Canterbury University and the Christchurch Technical College for supplying tutors for the classes.
