BUSY TIME FOR BRIGADE

Four Fire Calls In Five Minutes Four fire calls in five minutes were answered by units of the Christchurch Fire Brigade late yesterday afternoon. The first call came at 4.44 p.m. and the last at 4.49 p.m. Fifteen apple trees were severely damaged in a fire at an orchard at 214 Sawyers Arms road. The orchard is owned by Mr P. Sisson. This was the last call received and a unit from the Central station attended. The first of the calls was to a grass fire on property at 30 Sylvan street, occupied by Mrs F. E. Wearne. Units from the Central and Sockburn stations attended. Another grass fire at 4.45 p.m. at 172 Chester street, occupied by Mr C. Curtis, was attended by a unit from the Central station.

A rubbish fire at 4.46 p.m. in Ford road, Belfast, was extinguished by one unit from St Albans. The contents of an oven were damaged by fire at a house at 59 Balrudry street, occupied by Mr E. Kwok. One unit from Sockburn Was called at 3.02 p.m. Two fires in grass bordering railway lines were extinguished by the Waimairi County Council water tender and a unit from St. Albans station last evening. The first fire, at 5.46 p.m., was near Sturrocks road, and the second, at 6.22 pm., was near Spencerville road.
