Psychiatric Services
Sir, —There are many persons vitally interested in the proposed extension of psychiatric services in this country who are hoping that the greatest care and deliberation Will be given by the Mental Hygiene Division in the appointments of these workers—particularly if they intend treating cases requiring psychoanalysis. It is to be hoped that the psychiatric workers employing this method, which requires a very high degree of skill, will have diplomas of mental hygiene. Also, in view of the fact that they gain control of the patients’ minds, and that patients are so dramatically influenced by 'the psychiatrists’ personalities and outlook on life, one hopes devoutly that the psychiatrists will be carefully selected people whose own personalities are so well integrated that they can afford to be setting themselves up as judges of other peoples’.— Yours, etc., FORMER PSYCHIATRIC PATIENT.
