Early Morning Taxis

Sir, —I feel it worthy of mention to any West Coasters who may be travelling by early railcar from Christchurch to Greymouth that taxis now charge 5s to the Christchurch station, even if the distance is only a quarter of a mile. A driver told me the charge was up of the 3s minimum, plus Is 6d after 2 o’clock, plus 6d for ringing the taxi by telephone. From now on, I will rise five minutes earlier and walk the short distance from my hotel to the station.—Yours, etc.,

ONCE BITTEN, TWICE SHY. February 6, 1959.

[The subject of this' letter would receive attention, the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) said when the letter was referred to him.]
