One of the 10 most wanted criminals in the United States stole a plane in Scrantin, Pennsylvania, made a freak landing in Burlington, and escaped in a stolen automobile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said last night The criminal, Frank Lawrence Sprenz, aged 29, of Akron, Ohio, escaped from an Akron- gaol last April. He was serving a sentence there for armed robbery. The F. 8.1. said Sprenz might be armed and was considered dangerous.
An F. 8.1. spokesman said Sprenz stole a single-engine light plane late on Friday night or early Saturday and flew it to Champlain Airport, just outside Burlington.
The plane landed in snow, tipped over and was badly damaged. Sprenz walked away from the plane, and made his way to Winooski, about a mile away. ,
He walked into a used car lot and told the owner he was thinking of buying. The dealer gave him a car to try out. He drove off in it.
A 15-State alarm is now out for Sprenz.
