VISIT BY GERMAN BUSINESSMAN
Lack Of Apartment Houses Noted
“Unfortunately the success of my trip to this country has been limited, as factories have not received their quotas for this year's import licences,” said Mr F. G. Mohring, who arrived in Christchurch yesterday.
A representative of a German company which deals tn Natural mis, aromatic chemicals, flower and perfume, oils, Mr Mohring is at present- touring , the Dominion as part'of a Far Eastern business trip. < “In .Germany, New Zealand is Well known as a country which Offers Unlimited opportunities for people’ who wish to build for themselves a good standard of living,” said Mr Mohring. When speaking of the healthy economic situation In Germany at the present time, Mr Mohring said that although it was such as to offer a good standard of. living for most Germans, it did not have such a strong foundation as New Zealand’s. “In the event .of an economic setback the inhabitants of Germany would become jobless and poor because of the large population whose wealth depends on export surpluses.” . Although this is his fifth business trip to the Far East, it is his first visit to New Zealand One thing that had impressed him considerably since his arrival at Auckland a week ago was the large number of “one family homes” and the seeming lack of apartment houses. In Germany the position was almost the reverse, he said.
.The firm which’ Mr Mohring represents is the largest of its type in' Germany, employing 500 persons, and the firm’s .products are exported to practically every country in the world. Mr Mohring will leave Christchurch today for Dunedin.
