FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A cold front is moving north-eastwards over northern districts of the South Island, and a ridge of high pressure extends from Tasmania to the south Tasman Sea. Forecast:— Canterbury: Moderate southerly winds, becoming light and variable; weather cloudy at first with scattered showers, but clearing gradually and becoming fair; temperatures . moderate. Outlook: fair. West Coast: Moderate northerlies, turning to moderate westerlies; cloudy at first with occasional ram or showers, but clearing gradually from the south; temperatures moderate. Outlook: becoming fair. Nelson and Marlborough: Moderate northerly winds in Nelson, elsewhere fresh north-westerlies, becoming strong in exposed places and possibly turning to moderate southerlies this afternoon; weather cloudy, with scattered drizzle or rain; mild temperatures.
