Women’s Softball WOMEN’S GAMES
Teachers’ College Wins Final Match Teachers* College beat Monowai B in the final game of the senior women's softball championship by 13 runs to 9. The women's competiton has now concluded in all grades and will be followed by a knock-out competition which commences on February 28. Monowai B first to bat was three up three down to -catches and Teachers’ College scored three runs from good batting by L. Hay, J. Stratford and M. Tuuta. Monowai B’s second innings yielded five runs. Erratic pitching-walked three batters, advancing runners, and hits by E. Scott, E. Tregear and J. Potts took Monowai B into the lead. Further good batting by L. Hay and J. Stratford, who hit her second two base hit of the game, gave Teachers’ College a good start in reply and three runs were scored before the third out was taken at home. Monowai B was three up three down in its third and Teachers’ College added another three runs to its total before Monowai B’s fielding improved to dismiss the batters. Monowai B was held scoreles* .wife two-on base in its next innings and stole second, gained third dri,- •jk fielder’s, choice, and came homd nn a hit by M. Tuuta before agood catch retired the side. In Monowai B’s fifth, L. Leask, who gained first on an error, stole second and third, came home on a hit by G. Robinson, who later scored on a fielder’s choice. Teachers’ College was three up three down in reply. Monowai B was retired scoreless with one on base in its sixth and Teachers’ College batting well, in? eluding a two base hit by B. Preddy, scored three runs before the third out was made. Trailing 'by six runs, Monowai B was Only able to score two runs, G. Robinson hit on, stole second and third, scoring on a fielder’s choice and J. Potts, who was walked to first, stole second, went to third on a fielder’s choice and came home on a hit by E. Win For Vanguard B In its game against Teachers’ College, vanguard B was far superior in both fielding and batting and had a very comfortable 30-7 win. In the later game Teachers’ College showed improved form to beat toigiora, 20-17. These games had Seen held over until Teachers’ College returned from its Christmas recess.
