Airborne Mice

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) ROME, February 14. Women screamed in a Rome theatre last night as live mice suspended from coloured paper parachutes floated down from the gallery on to the fashionable audience. Pandemonium prevailed for minutes as men grabbed the mice from their partners’ furs and evening gowns. Police were called and arrested seven young men on charges of disturbing public order. They said the mouse-throwers belonged to the same neo-Fascist organisation whose members Interrupted the first night showing of the same play recently by throwing rotten vegetables at the actors. The young men objected to certain passages in the play which ridiculed aspects of the regime of the Fascist dictator, Benito Mussolini.
