ASSIGNEE FAILS WITH CLAIM

Bankrupt’s Betting With T.A.B. (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 16. A claim by the Official Assignee to recover from the Totalisator Agency Board money wagered by Iris Lilian Richardson was dismissed by Mr Justice Haslam in the Supreme Court today. On February 20, 1957, Richardson was adjudged bankrupt on a creditors’ petition. The bankruptcy was deemed to have relation back to November 6, 1956. Between those two dates she bet £lB4l with the board, and received £1590. The Official Assignee claimed that the betting money should pass to him under the Bankruptcy Act. Mr W. R. Birks appeared for the Official Assignee and Mr L. M. Greig for the board.
