Motor Racing SOUTH ISLAND HILL CLIMB
Stanton Wins Event (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 15. The Stanton Special, driven by Maurice Stanton, of Christchurch, won the South Island hill climb championship with a breathtaking run of 49.955ec on the old DunedinWaitati highway yesterday. The second fastest run was put up by D. Campbell,, also of Christchurch, in a supercharged Maserati, with a climb of 51.255ee. David Young, of Umaru, a fast-improving driver, took third fastest time with a nicelyjudged run of 52.905ec in his C-type Jaguar, a car more suited to a smoother and faster course.
Held in good conditions, the hill climb was the first event this season to count for the hill climb gold star championship, which is awarded each year to the driver gaining the most successes in hill climb and sprint events.
