ATTEMPTED RAPE CHARGE
The trial of Kevin Francis Olley, aged 20 (Mr G. H. Lascelles), on alternative charges of attempted rape and indecent assault on an 18-year-old girl began in the Supreme Court yesterday before Mr Justice Adams and a jury. The complainant had gone to a dance at the Latimer Hall on the night of January 9 and had met and danced *with the accused, said the Crown Prosecutor (Mr C. M. Roper). She had agreed to let him see her home and they travelled from the hall on Oney’s motor-cycle. The motor-cycle was stopped in Oxford terrace and the girl and accused went and sat on the river bank where the alleged offence occurred. Accused had put his hand over the girl’s mouth to stop her from screaming. After accused had left her she went to a lighted house and complained of* Olley’s behaviour, Mr Roper said. Medical evidence would show that the girl had been manhandled but not severely. A Princeton professor predicted that the earth will continue to get warmer for two more centuries.
