May’s Captaincy Criticised
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, February 16 “May Is A Huge Flop As Captain,” was a headline in the “Daily Mail” today. An article under it, from the newspaper’s correspondent said May was cautious, lacked leadership and had been out-generalled. The article asked: “What has happened to Peter May, the blueeyed boy of English cricket? As one of his greatest admirers, I have to admit that I now seriously doubt if he should continue to captain England.” The writer said England gave the impression of a leaderless and incompetent party. “The experienced May has been outgeneralled and outclassed by Benatid, a captain in his first series.
“The simple truth is that May has not been equal to the vigorous, vital challenge of Australia. He emerges from the series with a badly damaged reputation,” the article, said.
