MAIREHAU GARDEN COMPETITION
Trophy Winners Announced There was a fine showing of bloom in the Malrehau Horticultural Society’s 1959 garden competition recently. In spite of the early season, layout and colour harmony were pleasing, although many entries were spoiled by lack of balance. Eightyseven entries were awarded a certificate of merit. The judges . were Messrs S., W. Gower, H. C. Collett, G. Wakeham, R. A. Proctor, A. Turland, and G. Murdoch. Results:— F. W. Walker Challenge Cup.-for the best vegetable, garden: G. F. Goodwin 1, C. B. Hawes 2, G. T. Holmes 3. Canterbury Car Club challenge trophy, for the best complete garden: C. E. Anderson 1, C. B. Hawes 2, G. T. Holmes 3. The Homestead Challenge Cup, for State house gardens only: Mr and Mrs H. Nicolle 1, Mrs M. I. Mclntosh 2, -Mrs A. A. Lawrence 3. The McVicker Challenge Cup, for the best garden viewed from the street: C. E. Anderson 1, Mr and Mn G. T. Hotawj and J. T. DykM (equal) 8, C. B, Hmi «.
