RUGBY GAMES ON ANZAC PAY

Suggestion Made To Wellington R.S.A. (New Zealand Press Association) WILLINGTON, February 14. A suggestion that the Wellington Rugby Union be allowed to stage a tournament on Anzac Day afternoon provided the net proceeds go to I the Returned Services’ Association will be placed before the Wellington council of the R.S.A. at its meeting next Monday. I The proposal was made in a letter from Mr Alan Barr, of Ngaio, Wellington. He was in the N.Z.R.S.A. delegation to Australia for Anzac Day, 1957, and said the Returned Services’ League welfare fund in South Australia annually received about £7OOO from sporting events held on Anzac Day. He said the introduction of a morning parade and service by the Wellington R.S.A. last year left the afternoon of Anzac Day free, and he suggested that a mooted seven-a-side Rugby tournament for the improvement of back play could be held.
