NEW SLABBING MILL AT STEELWORKS.—Surrounded by steel slabs, a masked and (loved operator is “deseaming," or “scarfing,” a slab (removing surface faults) at the new slabbing mill in the flat products division of the Port Kembla steelworks, 60 miles south of Sydney. The new mill, costing £A3,750,000 and as large and powerful as any of its type in the world, has a Capacity of 2,000,000 tons a year.. This is one of the two primary rolling mills at the works, which provide the basic raw material used in such mass-produced goods as motor vehicles, building sheet, domestic appliances, office furniture, and tinplate.
