Colours
EMPHASIS An appreciation of good decorating embraces the effect of colour combined with textures and patterns of furniture and fabrics. When you see a well blended scheme, it is easy to overlook the points which give focus to the room, these mostly being found in such simple tricks as the grouping of chairs—the timbered wall—the space—and the lighting. The most acceptable rooms are those where lighting is placed for emphasis to feature decorating highlights. The least attractive schemes are found where richly coloured walls and boldly contrasting furnishings have overpowered top lights reflecting the brilliant colours in a hard glare. Indirect lighting will soften bright colours —feature lamps will o /•» -?/ 4 focus the high spots.
