Sumner In Lead By dismissing Beckenham for 248, Sumner maintained its lead in the Canterbury Suburban Cricket Association’s senior competition on Saturday. For Beckenham, M. Willis, who scored 49, and K. Tucker, who scored 43, batted well For Stunner, Edgenton, who took five foir 92, and T. Smither am, with five for 70, shared the wickets. Aranul deserved its win over Matchless. After leading by four runs in the first innings, Aranui, with a sound 95 by R. Eyre, made 176. The last three wickets gave G. Smart a hat trick. Leaving Matchless to score 180 to win, Aranui failed by one wicket. The score was 149 for nine, with Spicer, who made 47, top scorer. Waltham went very close to an outright win over K.P. MALVERN GAMES Sheffield, with 104 points, won the Malvern Cricket Sub-Association’s competition, which finished on Saturday. Other points were:—Greendale 82; United 60; Darfield juniors, Darfield seniors 40; South Malvern 36. Sheffield, which scored 198, had an easy win over South Malvern in the main game. A. F. Wright, who made 58, was top scorer for Sheffield. The most successful South Malvern bowler was D. Mitchell, who took three for 35. The outstanding bowler in the game between United and Darfield seniors was R Morris, of United, who took eight for 29 with his slow leg spinners.
