Cancer Conference At Auckland
(New Zealand Press AMOdatUmt AUCKLAND, February 15. A world cytology expert, Du. George L. Wied, will be the guest speaker at the first cancer conference in New Zealand, beginning at Auckland on April 20. Ha is a member of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology of the University pf Chicago and the Chicago Lying-in Hospital. One hundred doctors are expected to attend the week-long course.
Of the eight dip games played, four were drawn. Apart from the Norwich match, Arsenal and Bolton, both bidding for the cup and league double, shared the honours with Sheffield United and Preston respectively, and Birmingham City drew with Nottingham Forest. Sheffield United, the quick-tack-ling second division team, led Arsenal until the last seven minutes, when the inside-forward, L. Julians, scored a goal to draw the match. Arsenal, without its best players, T. Docherty. J. Bloomfield and J. Henderson, was well below its league form.
The four teams, to reach the competition’s last eight at the first attempt were Blackpool, 3-1 home winners over West Bromwich Albion; Burnley, 1-0 home winners over Portsmouth; Aston Villa, which had a 4-1 away win against Everton; and Luton, which travelled to meet the second division side, Jpswich, and won 5-2. Wolverhampton Wanderers maintained its position as 'the first division leader with a 6-2 victory over Leeds United. Sheffield Wednesday, second division leader, beat Scunthorpe 2-0 at home', and Fulham moved back into second place with a 5-2 home win over Leyton Orient. The England inside left, J. Haynes, scored a hattrick for Fulham. Hull. home winners over Halifax, went ahead in the third division. Plymouth, which had shared top place, drew 1-1 at Bournemouth.
