British Defence Budget
Sir, —Mr P. J. Alley, Lord Russell and a few others, have drawn attention to the appalling collective insanity which dominates the so-called wise nations. What is wrong with our universities that they cannot run a series of lectures “Looking to the Year 1959
—Back from the Year 2000?" The fact that if peace prevails the Insulation of the world will be doubled by the year 2000 seems to justify the "bomb bosses," in being ready to trim up what they may consider unhuman humanity. New Zealand should play a big part in fighting for international friendship- and scientific reality because she is in the centre of the big international country—the ocean. Just fancy if we offered the Auckland Islands, which has one of the best natural harbours in the world, as an international country, to study the ocean with its vast varied facilities for food •and peace.—Yours, etc, i 1 L.
