ROYAL VISIT TO CANADA
“Queen Should Pay For Tour"
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) TORONTO, January 26. Mr Bernard Glaum, vicepresident of the Native Sons of Canada Organisation, said today that the Queen should pay her own way when she visited Canada next year.
Mr Glaum said that although his group was not opposed to the visit by the Queen and Prince Philip, the Queen or the British Government should pay for the tour.
Mi Glaum said in an interview with Canadian newspapers that from the facts made public by the Canadian Government “it seems obvious to us that Canada in the midst of a serious recession cannot afford to spend the estimated 1.300.000 dollars necessary to covbr the expenses of this trip.” Mr Glaum described the Native Sons of Canada Organisation as a non-political, non-religious organisation of Canadian-born people aiming at closer ties with the Commonwealth. It was pro-Canadian and recognised the Queen as Queen of Canada, he said.
