PROTEST RULED FRIVOLOUS
Rider’s Objection At Gisborne
• Neu Zrtiiwno t'rest Association! GISBORNE, January 27.
Payment of dividends on the last race, the Ngarimu Handicap, at the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s summer meeting yesterday was delayed by an inquiry into a protest by the connexions of Jackpot (second), who claimed Jackpot had been interferred with by Elwyn on the turn out of' the straight.
The judicial committee heard evidence from P. Cathro, the rider of Jackpot, and by D. J. Rich (The Hare), who was called by Cathro. The committee decided that the judge’s placings could stand.
The committee also decided that Cathro’s objection was frivolous and that the £5 deposit be forfeited. Cathro was severely repremanded. In the Waihau Hack, J. Ormsby, part-owner and trainer of The Answer, was fined £lO for a late scratching in the Beach Memorial Handicap. J. T. Shaw, trainer of Forest Path, was fined £lO for a late scratching.
