Bennett Family Gathering
fNew Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 23 A tent had to be pitched on the lawn of the home of Mr F T. Bennett In Epsom tonight to accommodate the nephews and nieces of Mr C. M. Bennett, the High Commissioner for New Zealand in Malaya, on the eve of his departure for Singapore. “There must be about 50 of them,” chuckled New Zealand’s first Maori diplomat as he watched the children chasing one another around a large spreading piinga in front of his brother’s house. Mr Bennett's mother, the widow of the RL Rev. F, A. Bennett, a former Bishop of Aotearoa, came from Rotorua with a brother, the Rev. M. A. Bennett, also of Rotorua, and Dr. H. R. Bennett, o! Kingseat Hospital, was there with the host, Mr. F. T. Bennett, an Auckland dentist They and their wives and children, reporters and Photographers and a representative ’of the New Zealand Broadcasting ■ Service with a tape recorder made a lively gathering tor. the farewell of Mr Bennett and his wife. They expect to be in Malaya for, two to three’years—the normal tropical term for diplomats. They will leave by Tasman Airways for Sydney tomorrow morn-
