MINOR fires
Three minor fires were attended by units of the Christchurch Fire Brigade yesterday. A grass fire in Cattle Track road, off Blenheim, road, was attended by a unit from the Sockburn fire station at 734 am. and was put out before it could do any damage. Two units from the Central fire station were called out at 9 a.m. when an acetylene cylinder at the premises of H. Flavell and Son, 131 Victoria street, caught fire. No damage was done when a small 'quantity of sawdust in Grassmere street, Papanui, was reported to be smouldering at 9.17 am. A unit from the St Albans station answered the call Public Inspect Royalist.—Several hundred persons inspected HMN.Z.S. Royalist, flagship of the Royal New Zealand Navy, when the cruiser was open to the public at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon. Many of them were children, and they were shown over the ship by crew members.
