TROTTING CHANCE FOR ELOPE IN HORORATA MAIN EVENT

Elope, a winner over. 13 furlongs at Rangiora two starts ago, is selected to win again in the Hororata Handicap, the main race and first leg of the double at the Hororata Trotting Club’s annual meeting tomorrow.

Elope showed that he had ; trained on wen since he finished ninth over’/two miles at Addington early in the month, with a : bold showing at the Ashburton ■ trials on Tuesday. The field at Hororata does not look to be very strong and Elope should just about win. I Josie Gay gave a dashing display at the Ashburton trials and although she has. been out of form for some time now, she should be capable of a bold showing. She has some sound efforts over two miles to her credit. Resolution, another sound stayer, has not raced since he finished third over two miles at Oamaru in ? October. The Light Brigade gelding has useful speed and if he is forward enough, he may be hard to beat. Focal Point was fourth over 14 furlongs at Washdyke last Saturday and if he receives a good trail, he may take beating. Laughlin’s Lass was twice placed at Washdyke and she is overdue for a win. The Young Bob mare could easily upset calculations in; this field. Rimu Lass, third in this race 12 months ago, Mulgrove and Scenic Cruise have al! raced well qnough lately to be considered in this field. The New Zealand Metropolitan Handicap has been selected for the second leg of the double. The majority of the horses in this race

are* engaged earlier in the day in the; Canterbury Park Handicap. : Form in the first race should be the best guide to prospects in this event, with Highland Ddn, Lucky Hazel and Femleaf selected to race prominently.
