GANG ASSAULT ON MAN
Two Youths And Girl Sentenced
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 22. Two youths, aged 15 and 16, and a girl aged 14, appeared yesterday in the Children’s Court charged with assault with intent to rob. The three were involved in an attempt to rob George McNabb on November 11. Two other youths and a girl bad previously been dealt with in the Magistrate’s Court. The two youths sentenced in the, Magistrate’s Court both received sentences of 18 months’ gaol, and the girl was released on probation for three years. It was stated in Court that the party of youths took McNabb to Oriental Bay, where they intended to attack him and rob him of money they believed he was carrying. McNab did not take up the position they had arranged so they walked back towards the city, attempting to involve him in a fight. The two girls walked on either side of him, jostling him. Near Courtenay place the street lights went out and one of the youths already dealt with struck McNabb on the head. Mr W. H. Carson, S.M., told the three before the Children’s Court that he thought the real leaders had already been dealt with. He told" them they had got into the wrong company. He placed the girl under the supervision of the Child Welfare Division for two years and one of the youths under supervision for 18 months. The case of the other youth was adjourned till May 20. All three had admitted playing a part in the offence.
