MELTING OF ROAD TAR BY SUN
Auckland A.A. To Seek Remedy
(New Zeatana Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 22.
The Auckland Automobile Association plans to approach the National Roads Board and lochl bodies here to see.. what can be done to prevent bleeding roads —surfaces which melt in hot weather and splash car bodywork. The association's secretary (Mr E. T. Brown) told members last night of widespread reports of damage. He said: ‘‘Thrown up on to ear bodywork, near-liquid tar starts to eat into metal immediately.” The worst patches of road about which members were complaining were between Auckland and Whangarei, near Whakatane. around Mercer, and many isolated patches around the city itself. ‘‘Many stretches of road, no matter how much sun they get, never ‘bleed,’ yet others arc sticky before noon,” Mr Brown said, “We hope to get an explanation and some remedial action through the roads board and local bodies.” he said. He was unable, however, to suggest what remedial action could be taken.
