Arrival At Washington
(Ree. 11.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 20.
President Arturo Frondizi, of Argentina, arrived by air in Washington today on an official visit and was greeted at the airport by President Eisenhower and the Secretary of State (Mr Dulles).
Because of rain, the welcoming ceremonies were transferred to a hangar at the airport Accompanying the Argentine President were his wife and a party of officials.
In an address of welcome. President Eisenhower told President Frondizi that the United States and Argentina shared common ideals in their belief in freedom and the right of the people.
“I am sure that because of that kinship in the appreciation of values,” Mr Eisenhower said, "our people will look on this Visit as a hope of both our countries that we will march forward in realisation of these objectives more strongly.” During his 13-day State visit. President Frondizi and his party will also visit Chicago, Detroit ana New York.
While in Washington, he will have talks with President Eisenhower, Mr Dulles and other State Department officials, and also will confer with Mr Eugene Black, the Presiden 4 of the World Bank. President and Mrs Eisenhower were to give a State dinner in honour of President and Mrs Frondizi at the White House tonight. .
KIDNAPPED BABY
Woman Indicted

(Ree. 7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK January 20 A Brooklyn grand jury today indicted Mrs Jean lavarone, aged 43. on kidnapping charges in the abduction of the newly born baby, Lisa Rose Chionchio. from a hospital on January 2. Judge Nathan Sobel on a motion of the defence counsel, immediately ordered that she be committed to hospital for examination.
The baby, only two hours and a half old when stolen from a nursery in St. Peter's Hospital, Brooklyn, was found nine days later in Mrs lavarone’s flat and is now back in her parents’ home. Judge Sobel said: "If I credit the information appearing in the press, this is a stupid crime, committed from the most commonplace of motives, love of a woman for a man. lam curious to find out what kind of woman and, if possible, what kind of man.”
•The prosecution has contended that Mrs lavarone stole the child in an effort to convince a man friend that it was hers and that he was the father, in the hope that he would marry her. She has seven children of her own.
