Twelve team*. aU unbeaten, had made sure of qualifying when the fifth and sixth of the eight rounds of section play in the Taranaki Bowling Centre's annual open fours tournament were completed today. The weather was again gloriously fine. The unbeaten teams, five of them from Taranaki, are:—T. T. Skoglund (Carlton), A. Wills (Walton). J. Turton (Huntly), P. Zillwood (Kilbirnie), L. Bennoch (Fitzroy), N. Borich (Hamilton), D. Old - (Paritutu), K. S. Ewing (Balmoral), E. Martin (Paritutu), K. Murtagh (Paritutu). F. Laredo (National Service), and A. J. .Paterson (Manaia). One of the best games was that tn the fifth round between M. Squire (West End) and J. Boyes (Island Bay). Both had had three wins and both needed this game. It went to Boyes, 21-20, after an extra end. In the sixth round, Boyes was edged out by a single point by D. O’Brien (Northern, Palmerston North), while Squire pulled up to four wins with a one-point win over H. Wagstaff (Fitzroy). C. D. Grieve (Motueka), last year** winner, had no easy road to success when he met G. Bracegirdle (Fitzroy) in the fifth round. After a tense game. Grieve won, 22-19, to give him his fourth victory. In the afternoon, he beat G. Harris (New Plymouth), a three-winner, 23-21. K S. EWing (Balmoral), a regular attender at the tournament for a number of years—he won the national fours title a few years ago when he had M. Squire as third—beat J. Quinn (Vogeltown), 29-20, in the fifth round, and made it six in a row with the defeat of L. Kay (East End), 86"83. O
