LINDWALL IN TEST TEAM

< 6i Possible Finish For England” (N.z Press Asaoctotton—Copvngftt* (Rec. 8.30 pjn.) LONDON. Jan. 21. The inclusion of the fast bowler. R. R. Lindwall, in the Australian side to meet England in the fourth test at Adelaide was seen by the "Daily Mirror" as a blow to England’s chance of victory. Under a seven-column heading, "Aussies Recall 'Old Man’ Lindwall,’’ the "Daily Mirror" reported that Lindwall was being brought into the side in an all-out bid to take the next test—and the series. The “Daily Mirror" report said the Australian selectors did not want to recall Lindwall, but his "recent performances had forced his inclusion In the team. With I. Meckiff and A. K. Davidson. Lindwall gave Australia a triple fast-bowling threat to England. "The Times” said that it was a stirring performance for Lindwall to have forced his way back into the test side at so venerable an age .for a fast bowler. Thirty-seven-year-old Lindwall was a craftsman using subtle variations of pace and swerve to compensate for the fact that his average speed had dropped, said "The Times." The "Daily Herald" suggested that Australia was copying England’s idea of 1956 when C. V. Washbrook, D. C. S. Compton and D. S'. Sheppard were brought back with such success. Like the “Dally Mirror," the "Daily Herald" saw the inclusion of Lindwall as a possible finish to England's chances of retaining the ashes.
