Marlborough Centenary
Marlborough’s history and growing industry have inspired the designs of three stamps which will be issued to commemorate the Marlborough centennial. The twopenny depicts the careening of Captain Cook’s barque, Endeavour, at Ship Cove, the threepenny shows the transhipment of wool from a bullock dray to an open boat over the Wairau bar, in ' 1857, and the eightpenny is illustrated with a view of the salt stacks at Lake Grassmere. the stamps are 37mm bw zimm in size, in horizontal format/
They *were designed by Messrs G. R. BuU and G. R. Smith, of Wellington, and were printed in England by the photogravure (process. They will go on salmon March 2.
