Another promising new player at the Spreydon club is T. Stewart, a first-year bowler who has shown a good deal of ability as a draw player. He is lead for R. Anderson’s four in the club championship. • A very discriminating burglar broke into the Cashmere club’s pavilion last Thursday and stole four tins of the best biscuits, 51b of tea, all the bagged sugar, one set of bowls and one old bag, several towels and two or three pairs of shoes. The burglar left all ihe new bags and kindly filled the sugar basins before he left. • The teacher, a prominent member of the Dallington club, A. Duthie, received a lesson in bowling from his former pupil, D. Martin, in the Dallington club singles championship. Martin, a second year colt, took a life from Duthie with a very handsome win and has also done well in the Robinson Shield competition. Duthie is a former club singles champion and prominent Three Fours player.

Two of the Christchurch club’s rinks entered in the Dominion tournament did well. One rink, skipped by A. Jones, did not qualify, but it had some interesting games. The other rink, skipped by A. Taylor, with J. Rennie at third, D. Angus at second and M. Boon leading, finished the section play with eight wins. In the post-sec-tion play the rink met a strong team skipped by J. Marinovitch, of Oratia, and were eliminated. • In the Fendalton club’s singles championships recently, L. Evans beat H. P. Rennie and C. Gilbert beat L. Grant. Both ttyese games were closely contested. Gilbert won his on the last head. In the pairs there were two good wins by M. Gardiner and H. W. Wilson who beat W. Donnelley and J. Excell and W. T, Wood and F. Pankhurst who beat T. B. Lane and W. Dailey easily. In the rinks there was a closely-contested game between teams skipped by Dailey and S. Marshall. Marshall was unlucky on his last head. He picked up the jack, but it ran to Dailey’s bowl and Dailey won 18-17. A feature of this match was S. Peddie’s play at second.

The Cashmere club’s Watson Shield team, skipped by E. Hay with R. H. Neill third, L. C. Jones second and G. James in the lead, has had three wins, beating Opawa, Mount Pleasant and Christchurch Working Men’s Club. The team will meet Barrington next Monday evening. • A popular member of the Dallington club, Archie Kibble, is leaving to rejoin his family in England and was bidden farewell at a recent function at the club on Saturday. Kibble was the donor of the trophy for the annual married couples’ event at the club. The vice-president (Mr W. Kitchingham) spoke at the function, and Mrs Merrett, of the women’s section, thanked him for the help he had given the section. Kibble was presented with a travelling rug and a fruit bowl. • Bowling fixtures for the week are:—Thursday, January 15: Beckenham floodlit tournament. Saturday, January 17: Pennants, three fours and Robinson Shield. Sunday, January 18: Kaiapoi, Redcliffs, Hornby, New Brighton tournaments. Monday, January 19: Sydenham and Beckenham floodlit tournaments. Tuesday, January 20: Cashmere floodlit tournament. Wednesday, January 21: Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club, Spreydon, South Brighton floodlit tournaments, Christchurch, Rangiora, Lincoln all day tournaments.
