Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Slessor, leader of the United Kingdom delegation attending the British Commonwealth relations conference in Palmerston North, will spend next week-end in Christchurch. He la due to reach Wigram in an RJ4.Z.AJF. Devon aircraft on Friday afternoon and leave from Wigram for Palmerston North the following Monday. He will stay in Christchurch with Air Marshal Sir Robert Clark-Hall. Dr. M. M. Burns, director of Canterbury Agricultural College, was congratulated by the board of governors yesterday on his award of 0.&.E. in the New Year honours list. Dr. Burns said he accepted the honour as recognition officially of the contribution of the college io agriculture and the community generally. Mr H. R. Lake and Mrs-Lake will leave Lyttelton in the Auckland Star on February 21 on a visit to Great Britain. They plan to return to Christchurch about the end of September. Dr. A. E. Henderson, of Canterbury Agricultural College, has been elected chairman of the management committee of the Woollen Industries Research Institute
Mr I. L. Ward, formerly of Auckland, who gained his bachelor of engineering degree at Canterbury University College in 1928. was appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the New Year Honours. He is director of water development in Cyprus, and has spent many years working in the Middle East, particularly in Palestine, Iraq, and
Mr W. H. Gillespie,, M.P., was re-elected unopposed yesterday as chairman of the board of governors of Canterbury Agricultural College. Mr C. Hilgendorf was re-elected deputy-chairman. Dr. 1. E. Coop was yesterday appointed vice-principal of Canterbury Agricultural College by the board of governors.
