FLAG WARNING OF SPEARFISHERMEN
Sponsorship By N.Z. Association
A red and white flag meaning “diver below” has been sponsored recently by the New Zealand Underwater and Research Spearfishing Association to warn all boat operators when divers are in action.
The association hopes that all spearfisherman will use the flag and will display it either in the water or off-shore, and that boats will keep a" distance of at least 30 yards and watch closely for divers.
When using the flag, divers must keep as close as possible to it, and boat owners who require assistance from a diver should approach slowly with the engine off, or under oar power. The flag follows ,an American pattern and can be of any size. However, it must be so proportioned that it is four units wide? five units long, and the white strip should be one unit acrosa.
