BOWLS Oratia And Seatoun To Contest Final Of Fours

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, January 13.

Teams from Oratia (Auckland) and Seatoun (Wellington) will meet tomorrow in the final of the fours at the New Zealand Bowling Association’s tournament.

Auckland hopes rest on the sparkling style of M. A. Marinovich, and Wellington bowlers will be but in their hundreds to support J. Telford, a skilful skip who unobtrusively made his way to the final. A big crowd today watched the completion of the fourth round, the quarter-finals, and semi-finals.

Telford was most impressive in all his games. His delicate touch was an inspiration to his team, particularly in the semi-final against the former singles champion. J. H. Rabone (Auckland)Rabone towered above Telford on the green, but his play, excellent though it was, was always shaded by Telford. The crowd right behind him, Telford won by 23 points to 14, with one end not played. His team showed no Weaknesses. '*■".”

Telford quickly set Rabone a hard task. He scored twos on each of the first five heads, and after 12 ends he was leading by 15 points to 4. Several ends of fine bowling followed, with the shot changing from bowl to bowl. With four ends to go Rabone made a great bid, and looked likely to score a six or seven till Telford rolled

in a shot which cut Auckland’s gain to four.

Auckland won more ends than It lost toward the finish, but was not allowed to gain many points. The other semi-final was also fairly decisive. Marinovich beating P. Donaldson (Ponsonby), 20-14. It was also a game which produced some excellent play by both teams, thoiigh the crowd was wrapped up in the TelfordRabone match.

Marinovich was behind by a point early in the game, but steadily added to his tally till he had a handy lead.
